Mitral Regurgitation & TEER

Mitral regurgitation (MR) is one of the most common valvular heart conditions in Australia. Heart Valve Clinic provides specialist telehealth assessment, including evaluation for transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) with the MitraClip or PASCAL device.

Referral Criteria

Referral is appropriate for patients with:

  • Moderate-severe or severe mitral regurgitation (primary or secondary)

  • Symptoms of dyspnoea, reduced exercise tolerance, or heart failure attributable to MR

  • Patients with MR and left ventricular dysfunction or dilatation

  • Assessment for TEER suitability in patients not suitable for surgery

About TEER (Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair)

TEER is a minimally invasive catheter-based procedure that repairs the mitral valve without open-heart surgery. Performed under general anaesthesia via the femoral vein, it suits selected patients with significant MR, acceptable risk and appropriate valve anatomy. The telehealth consultation reviews echocardiographic anatomy and assesses TEER candidacy.
